For sale are Motorola Astro W-5 narrow-band radios that are programmed for railroad use. These radios have all 96 AAR railroad channels as well as the 3 NARCOA, 3 PRO, 3 WCRG, Alaska RR, the unique old BC Rail (now CN) frequency and the 7 NOAA weather channels. All total there are 114 channels programmed in the radio when you receive it. The Motorola Astro is, perhaps, the best radio for speeder use as it's been well proven by the Class 1 railroads for years. It's a serious commercial radio that's rugged and has all the features needed to operate anywhere on the rails. I sell these as a package that includes the radio, microphone, mounting bracket, remote speaker, antenna and all wiring. Most all the accessories are new OEM. FOR SALE (Apr 16, 2024) Colorado - MT/M19 - Up for your consideration, a "Deep Dish" roof from an M19. The overall dimensions are "about" 63 1/4" wide, 56 1/2" long and 5 1/8" deep. There are "gutters" on three sides, assuming no gutter on front. There looks to be a tear on one side though roof does NOT look to be severely bent. Could be rewelded or brazed. There is carpet (noise/vibration dampening) added to the interior surface but looks to be easily removed. Located near Denver Colorado. I will be attending the LaVeta pass run in MAY and could bring with. Asking $150.

FOR SALE (Mar 28, 2024) New Hampshire - a MOTOROLA Mobile Radio and an Intercom for your Railcar ! - With a Mobile Radio installed in your Railcar, you will be able to hear essential communications from the Excursion Coordinators and others regarding the current location of the Excursion Railcars. You will also be able to hear safety messages about conditions on and along the track (tree down at MP81.7, trespassers after the sharp curve at MP93.3 or very poor sight-line at the Clover Street road crossing). You will also be able to advise the E.C.'s of any changes, such as a mechanical problem or any emergency situation.
All of my MOTOROLA mobiles undergo a complete mechanical + electrical inspection prior to being reprogrammed with the three NARCOA Channels and seven NOAA Weather Channels. I have Astro SPECTRA's, MCS-2000 and CM-400 Radios in stock. The System capable radios are programmed with all 97 AAR Channels. All radios ship with a complete accessory group, consisting of a Radio Bracket, Hand Microphone + Hang-Up Clip, External Speaker, Power Cables and an EZ-Mount Antenna with pre-attached coaxial connector. I include an Installation Guide that I have specifically written for the Railcar environment with each shipment.
I produce a combination product that consists of a medium size Mobile and a 2 Place Intercom mounted in a rugged transportable housing. This unit weighs about 8 pounds and is equipped with a loud internal speaker and hand microphone. (When under way, one would use Noise canceling Headsets and the included Puh to Talk switch to transmit on the radio). The unit is equipped with removable top cover and a nylon shoulder strap to make it easy to transport to + from your Set-On location
I also have a selection of reconditioned Aviation Intercoms and Noise Canceling Headsets from David Clark, Sigtronics. and Avcomm to make your trips more enjoyable and less stressful. I produce several versions of an Intercom Interface Box to connect most MOTOROLA Mobile Radios to a standard Aviation Intercom. It is possible to start with just an Intercom for 2 people and later add a Mobile Radio for full communications with the Excursion. Please Note - I do not sell or support Portable Radios, due to their very limited transmit range and battery capacity. Also, I do not repair or program “Other Brands” of mobile radios, as I do not have the required software, cables and experience to work on non-Motorola radios.
