Eastern Shore Railroad 2001
Return to Gallery Index
The first trip on the ESRR took place on a very damp and chilly weekend, March 31 - April 1, 2001. We traveled in Tom Stallings' beautifully restored Norfolk Southern A6, the 8401. Tom invited us because our MT14 had recently derailed, resulting in a broken bearing casing, and also because he needed us to tow the car. During WWII, this line was a double tracked and signaled railroad, PRR's connection to Norfolk and its naval yards.

The Eastern Shore Railway Museum - We set-on a little farther up the track in Parksley, Virginia and then line up in front of the Railway Station on a chily Saturday Morning

On the grounds of the Eastern Shore Railway Museum - Volunteers graciously opened up the station and visitor center to make their facilities as well as coffee and donuts available.

The Parksley Depot

Making the news - Tom Stallings, Carey Boney and Phil Gandy share information with a local newspaper reporter.

The Safety Meeting

Tom Stallings returning to 8041 after consulting with Carey Boney

Heading South from Parksley

Cheriton Depot

Waiting to cross Highway 13 on our way to Cape Charles

Boy! Glad it's not summer! - Highway 13 is the main North-South Delmarva Penninsula Route...if this was summer, the traffic would be backed up for miles.

Heading for the Cape Charles Light - On arrival it turned out to be a water tower painted to look like a lighthouse...

The Tijuana Taxi headed into the wye

The ramp to Norfolk - The car ferry moves rail cars from the Delmarva to Norfolk...must have been something during WWII.

8401 Backing into the wye

Sunday April 1 - The April Fool was that the weather channel forecast rain and heavy weather!

Tom Stallings and 8401 are Ready to Head Nawth! - which is an unusual thing for Tom.

Lunch stop in Pocomoke City Maryland. - (there's this great little deli just two blocks....

End of the line - well, actually, NS is on the other side of the bridge... and we all know about that.
